Correcting Mistakes in Al-Fatiha Recitation
Tajwid – correcting common mistakes in Surah Al-Fatiha recitation
Al-Fatiha: A Mirror of Your Tajwid
Because Al-Fatiha is recited so frequently, any systematic errors become deeply ingrained. Identifying and correcting mistakes in this surah is high-impact work.
Most Common Al-Fatiha Errors
الرَّحْمَٰنِ: The lam in الرَّحْمَٰنِ is a sun letter – it must assimilate. Many readers pronounce "Al-Rahmaan" but incorrectly articulate the lam before the raa
صِرَاطَ vs سِرَاطَ: Surah 1:6 uses ص (Saad), not س (Sin). These are different letters with different makhaarij
Stopping at wrong places: Do not stop between الرَّحْمَٰنِ and الرَّحِيمِ in verse 1; they form one complete meaning unit
The madd in الضَّالِّين: This is madd laazim – it must be held 6 harakaat. Many readers cut it short
Self-Assessment
Record a recitation of Al-Fatiha weekly and compare it to the previous week. Track your improvement on each of these specific points.
