IB MYP: Personal Project and ATL Skills
IB MYP – personal project, ATL skills and key concepts
The Middle Years Programme
The IB MYP serves students aged 11–16. It connects academic rigour with real-world application through eight subject groups and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.
The Personal Project
In Year 5 of the MYP, each student undertakes an independent Personal Project. Students choose a topic of personal interest, set a goal, and produce a product or outcome. The project is assessed on three criteria: planning, applying skills, and reflecting.
ATL Skill Categories
Communication skills
Social skills
Self-management skills
Research skills
Thinking skills (critical, creative and transfer)
Key Concepts
MYP learning is organised around 16 Key Concepts (e.g. Creativity, Change, Communities) and Related Concepts in each subject. These frame deeper conceptual understanding.
