How to Track Your Child's Academic Progress
Parent's guide to tracking academic progress – tools, habits and monthly reviews
Why Progress Tracking Matters
Regular progress monitoring helps parents identify gaps early, celebrate achievements, and have informed conversations with teachers. It doesn't require specialist knowledge – just consistent observation and communication.
What to Track
Grades and marks: Keep a simple spreadsheet of test and homework results by subject
Topic mastery: Which topics has your child understood well vs struggled with?
Study habits: Consistency, quality of revision, time management
Wellbeing: Stress levels, sleep, social engagement
Monthly Review Meeting
Hold a 20-minute monthly review with your child. Review the past month's results together without judgment. Set 2–3 specific goals for next month. Ask "What can I do to support you?" rather than "Why aren't your grades better?"
