SAT mock test guide – Digital SAT format, timing and pacing strategy

SAT Test Day Format

The current SAT (Digital SAT, from March 2024) is adaptive. Module 1 in each section is the same for everyone; Module 2 difficulty adapts based on Module 1 performance. Total time: approximately 2 hours 14 minutes.

Digital SAT Structure

  • Reading and Writing Module 1: 27 questions, 32 minutes

  • Reading and Writing Module 2: 27 questions, 32 minutes

  • 10-minute break

  • Math Module 1: 22 questions, 35 minutes

  • Math Module 2: 22 questions, 35 minutes

Pacing Strategy

For Reading/Writing: approximately 70 seconds per question. For Math: approximately 95 seconds per question. Flag and skip difficult questions; return with remaining time. Never leave a question blank – no penalty for wrong answers.

Mock Test Advice

Take official College Board mock tests at Bluebook (the digital testing platform). Use the same device type you'll use on test day. Simulate real conditions: no phone, time each section strictly.
